We know that to so many of our puppy buyers, this is more than just finding a pet, they are looking for a new member of the family to adopt.
When I had my son, each week I excitedly looked forward to seeing his growth progress. This made me think, my puppy's new parents would probably enjoy seeing their new baby Bordeauxs' progress as well.
So I researched all the info and pictures I could find!
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did.

~ PUPPIES PRENATAL ~
22-33 days: The pups start growing more rapidly at this stage and have almost tripled in size since conception. In week 4, the head is growing and the structure of the basic eyeball is formed with the primitive cornea, lens & retina in place. Their organs are growing at this stage as well as their vertebrae! Legs and paws are beginning to form. |
(6 weeks) 35-36 days: The embryo is now officially a fetus and is starting to look like an actual puppy!
Their organs and nervous system are finishing developing. The joints, paws and toes are forming along with the bones beginning to harden. The eyes now have eyelids that will remain closed until about 10-14 days after birth. |
There are 2 "horns" (also known as the arms of the uterus) where the pups and their sacs grow.
This is the incubator that nourishes the unborn puppies. During the last 2 weeks of pregnancy, you can start to see and feel the puppies moving inside momma's belly. You'd be amazed at how much growing they do the last 2 weeks in the womb. |
~ PUPPIES POSTNATAL ~
First Week Postnatal
Bordeaux puppies are so small when they begin life. It is hard to believe that in just a few weeks, those helpless little bundles will become bouncing, barking, fun loving young dogs. It is fascinating to watch how fast they develop and grow.
At birth, newborn puppies are incredibly vulnerable.
Besides being unable to walk or move around much, newborn puppies are blind, deaf and toothless for the first couple weeks after birth.
All they are able to do is feel, taste and make small vocalizations.
They cannot regulate their own body temperature at this beginning stage of life, so we always make sure they are in a temperature regulated area with mom, where they are constantly monitored.
Pups spend about 90% of this time sleeping! All their energy is used for feeding/growing. Their weight has already doubled in the first 10 days.
At this beginning stage, puppies cannot support their own weight yet, but can crawl around using their front legs.

Second Week Postnatal
Around two weeks old the puppies are coming into their senses. Around 10 days to 2 weeks old, their eyes have opened, giving them a whole new sense of the new world around them.
As with week one, week two is filled with a lot of resting and naps. The real action is happening behind the scenes as the puppy grows. Those little twitches you see as they are sleeping... is actually helping their muscles grow while they sleep!
Puppies generally gain about 10 percent of their birth weight each day.

Third Week Postnatal
As stated previously, puppies ear canals are closed at birth so the world is a very quiet placer them at the beginning. By the time the puppies are 3 weeks old, the ear canals and eyes are starting to opening up. The puppies can now hear & see.
During week 3 they will start taking their first wobbly steps. Sure, they're very wobbly and not very coordinated but its absolutely adorable watching them learn to walk.
At around the 21 day mark, puppies start to develop their tiny, but very sharp puppy teeth! These teeth won't stick around though. They will be replaced by the pup's more robust adult teeth by the time they're about 3 or 4 months old. By the time the puppies are around 8 months old (sometimes less) they should have a full mouth of adult teeth.

Fourth Week Postnatal
By week 4, the puppies are starting to become more vocal with little yelps, whines and barks.
Moms milk with naturally start to slow down just a bit at 4 weeks so this is the perfect time to introduce the puppies to mushy puppy food!
Even though milk production is starting to slow, we still keep our pups feeding on mom until they are 7 to 8 weeks old. I mean, what is better than natures own milk for growing pups and we also feel it is good for their development to stay nursing on mom as long as they can.
Prior to four weeks, puppies need stimulation from their mother (or me) to eliminate their bowels. Around the four week mark, they can do this by themselves.
Puppies can better regulate their body temperature now, which is a real relief for us to not have to worry so much about them possibly getting too cold.

Fifth Week Postnatal
Week 5 is a time of rapid physical and sensory development for the puppies.
They are now playing more with each other at this age, which is absolutely adorable to watch!
This time is equivalent to learning the rules of the playground.
They are beginning to learn social skills from one another as well.
Pups are becoming very curious and brave at this stage and will start exploring their surroundings and trying to figure everything out.
Their newfound curiosity is also matched with an increase in apprehension towards strange things.

Sixth Week Postnatal
Week 6 is a really fun stage! You start to really see each puppy come into their own in a couple different ways....
Their little personalities and quirks are starting to come out as they continue to become braver and even more curious of their surroundings.
Week 6 is also when they start to get their own individual looks and really start growing into their own. This is the reason we wait until they are at least 6/7 weeks old for their new parents to choose which pup would fit best into your new family.

Seventh - Eighth Week Postnatal
Within this time, the puppies will start to lose their milk teeth and will be eating more solid food. We do allow our pups to still be with Mom during this time as we feel it beneficial to keep the pups with their Momma until they are ready to leave the nest.
At this time, puppies will be getting ready to graduate away from the litter and move on to their new lives. We highly recommend getting a good quality dog food & supplement for your new puppy.

Breeding/Whelping the Dogue De Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeauxs are not a cheap dog to breed and we work around the clock to ensure that our Dogues and their puppies are given the very best of care. They are not one of those breeds that you can put two dogs together and there you go, we have pups on the way.
From the moment the pups are born and take their first breath of life, we are right there, whether it be a natural birth or a C-section (which our vet is kind enough to let us take part in), we are with our pups 24/7 to ensure that everything goes well. From making sure the temperature is just right in the whelping beds, making sure each pup has had enough to eat, and that they grow to be healthy, well socialized pup for their new owners. Thus making it ten times harder on us when it is time for them to go to their new homes. Our lives are put on hold for our Bordeaux babies.... vacations cancelled, anniversary dinners delayed, and you can count on a litter being born on a holiday, you name it, because our Bordeauxs come first. We make it our goal to produce the healthiest puppies we possibly can and to socialize them at an early age so we can put them in their new homes with confidence that we did everything to ensure you have the very best puppy available. We do all of this so you can grow to love your Dogue de Bordeaux as much as we have grown to love ours. The saying is so true, "To love and be loved is the greatest joy on earth."
When our puppies are born we notify all those on our waiting list and we will be updating photos of the pups so you can watch them as they grow. Puppies are thoroughly health checked by our veterinarian. Then at 8 weeks of age we allow them to leave our nest to join their new families.
We accept a $800 non-refundable deposit ( Our pups are $3800 for Limited AKC or $4800 for Full AKC. Our deposits are first deposits gets first pick, second deposit gets second pick and so on. If you put a deposit down for a (lets say) male pup and there wasn't one born in the litter, you can put the deposit towards our next litter). -This is good for up to 1 year.
After your deposit, the remaining balance is due by 8 weeks of age. We do not accept checks for final payment. The balance must be made in full before the puppy goes to his/her new home. If the puppy isn't paid in full by 8 weeks of age, the buyer will lose claim to their deposit.
Once a deposit has been made, you will be sent group pictures of the pups as they grow. Once the pups are around 6-7 weeks old, we will send you individual pictures of the available puppies so you can start your picking process. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of any of our puppies. Puppies are sold to approved homes only. We reserve the right to hold back any puppy if we so choose to keep said puppy or if we feel a home isn't a good match for our babies.
ALL DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
